Renco Mine reopens in Masvingo, adds 356 new jobs

RioZim Limited has resumed production at its Renco Mine subsidiary in Masvingo after an 11-month closure, adding 356 workers to bring total employment to 1,126 people. The facility has yielded 20 kilograms of gold since restarting on September 1, with most employees drawn from nearby Nyajena communities where alternative job opportunities remain limited, according to group chief executive Rajgopal Swami.

The mining company plans to restart its larger Cam and Motor Mine operation in Kadoma, where dewatering of the open-cast pit began in late October. RioZim has also converted illegal miners at Dalny Mine into licensed artisanal operators through a tribute arrangement with the Chakari community.

Swami said the company intends to launch exploration programs to extend operations at both Renco and Cam sites while developing additional mineral claims. The executive credited employee dedication and support from government agencies, creditors and financiers for enabling the restart despite various obstacles.
