Reporter Mhlanga bail fight stalls before trial

The High Court hasn't decided yet if they will let Blessed Mhlanga out on bail. Blessed Mhlanga works as a news reporter for Alpha Media Holdings (AMH). The police say he sent messages that made people want to be violent.

Blessed Mhlanga asked the High Court to let him out on bail. He did this because the Magistrates' Court said no to bail for him. The Magistrates' Court thought he might try to change what the witnesses would say if he were out of jail.

As the High Court discussed his case, Justice Gibson Mandaza said no when Blessed Mhlanga's lawyer wanted to show electronic evidence. The lawyer said this evidence would help show why Blessed Mhlanga should get bail, but Justice Mandaza said it was too early to look at that evidence.

Justice Mandaza explained that the court can only consider that kind of evidence when the actual trial starts. The High Court finished listening to both sides' arguments about the case, but it didn't make a final decision yet about giving Blessed Mhlanga bail.
