Rhodes Stage 61 is a portable piano for gigs and studios

Rhodes Music announced a new compact piano called the Stage 61. This 61-key instrument uses tine technology with a passive design that captures the classic Rhodes feel. Musicians looking for portability will appreciate its gig-ready build. Pre-orders start March 25, with a special Launch Edition limited to exactly 61 units available worldwide.

The company designed Stage 61 with simplicity in mind, drawing inspiration from the original Rhodes pianos of decades past. Players will experience an unprocessed, authentic sound that honors tradition yet meets modern needs. The instrument delivers a pure analog tone without complicated features or electronics. It represents a back-to-basics approach focused on the essential playing experience.

Kluge Klaviaturen GmbH, part of the Steinway Group, crafted the precision keybed for expressive performance. The passive circuitry requires no external power source - just connect it to an amplifier, DI box, or preamp. At just 59 pounds (27kg), it ranks as the most portable Rhodes ever built. The design incorporates identical tines, pickups, hammer tips, and sustain pedals, as found in the premium MK8 model.

Musicians will appreciate the single jack output that connects directly to amps, interfaces, or pedalboards. The wooden case features a durable Tolex covering and a protective ABS lid, ready for road or studio demands. Dan Goldman from Rhodes Music explains that the Stage-61 delivers a classic Rhodes tone in a compact shell designed by Axel Hartmann. It uses the same keyboard and components as their flagship model.

The Launch Edition showcases unique design elements created by Axel Hartmann, famous for designing musical instruments for decades. These collector models feature khaki-green ABS hoods with a premium vinyl finish. The front panel is black with orange accents and exclusive design details that distinguish it from standard models. Only 61 musicians worldwide will have the opportunity to purchase this special version.

Starting March 25, customers can place orders directly through the Rhodes website. They may choose between paying a 20 percent deposit or the full amount upfront. Complete payments include a complimentary stand valued at $500. The product page remains behind password protection until pre-orders begin. Rhodes plans to ship all orders approximately six months after the purchase date.

The standard Stage 61 costs $6,495, £4,995 including VAT, or €5,995. Musicians interested in the Launch Edition should prepare to pay $6,995, £5,495 including VAT, or €6,495. Both models deliver the authentic Rhodes experience in the company's most compact format. The instrument targets performers who want classic sound without carrying heavy equipment.
