Rinomhota quits squad hours before AFCON opener

Zimbabwe's national soccer team just got some bad news right before the Africa Cup. Reading FC midfielder Andy Rinomhota has pulled out of the squad. He cited an urgent private family matter requiring his full attention. Rinomhota posted a statement saying he is deeply disappointed to miss a major tournament, noting that representing his country is a huge point of pride. He explained that the timing leaves him mentally unprepared to perform at his best for the team.

The Zimbabwe Football Association confirmed his withdrawal. Coach Mario Marinica will not call up a replacement, leaving the existing midfield group to handle the tournament. That unit includes players like Marvelous Nakamba and Knowledge Musona. Zimbabwe opens its tournament against Egypt, the competition's most successful nation. Rinomhota ended his statement by wishing his teammates luck and requesting privacy for his family.
