Rishab Shetty reflects on journey from 1 show to 5000 with Kantara

Actor Rishab Shetty reflected on his film career trajectory following the commercial success of Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1. The director posted on X on Friday about securing more than 5,000 full theater showings in 2025 compared to obtaining a single evening screening in 2016. Shetty credited audience support and divine intervention for his professional advancement from minimal exhibition opportunities in Mangaluru to widespread theatrical distribution.

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga praised the film as unprecedented in Indian cinema and commended Shetty's dual performance as actor and filmmaker. Actor Junior NTR congratulated the production team and Hombale Films for their support of the project. The prequel explores mythological origins through folklore themes and received recognition for cinematography and cultural authenticity after its release.

The original Kantara premiered in 2022 as a Kannada production written, directed, and performed by Shetty. Critics acknowledged the film's emotional resonance and genuine storytelling, which expanded its popularity beyond regional audiences. The success elevated Shetty's national profile and laid the foundation for the franchise in the recent prequel installment.
