Rivers State politics just got messier with lawmakers alleging a plot to block impeachment proceedings. The House of Assembly claims certain individuals want to hit up High Courts outside the Port Harcourt Judicial Division to grab ex parte orders that would freeze their constitutional duties regarding Governor Sim Fubara.
Dr Enemi Alabo George signed a statement warning against these schemes. He noted that intelligence reports suggest people plan to use judges in random areas to halt the legislative process illegally. The group insists this clearly violates established rules.
The lawmakers pointed to section 272 of the Constitution to prove their point. They argued that only the Federal High Court holds jurisdiction over questions about whether a governor or deputy has vacated their seat. Section 188 also supposedly stops courts from interfering with internal panel probes.
George advised the opposition to quit playing games with the rule of law. He challenged the officials facing gross misconduct allegations to just respond to the charges directly instead of using proxies to drag the Assembly into the media.
