Rubondo Island National Park is Africa's largest island park

Rubondo Island National Park, situated in Lake Victoria, is Africa's most extensive national park on an island. Managed by Tanzania National Parks, it draws limited visitors, mainly game fishermen and birdwatchers, and features diverse wildlife such as sitatunga, chimpanzees, and elephants.

Established as a game reserve in 1965 and later as a national park, the uninhabited island is largely forested. Introduced species, including chimpanzees released in the 1960s, have proliferated. Tourism activities include walking safaris, game drives, and bird watching.

The park is accessible by boat from mainland points or by air. Accommodation consists of park-operated bandas available for nightly rental.
