Rugunda crowns 81-year-old Museveni's savior at Kololo

Former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda delivered remarks supporting President Museveni at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday. The endorsement followed the Electoral Commission's formal acceptance of the 81-year-old leader's candidacy for Uganda's 2026 presidential race. Rugunda emphasized their partnership since university and praised Museveni's dedication to Uganda and Pan-African causes.

The former premier highlighted the National Resistance Army's 1986 victory that ended dictatorship and restored national stability. Rugunda noted significant health sector achievements under the current administration. Infant mortality rates declined from 120 deaths per 1,000 births to approximately 25 deaths through improved immunization programs and medical services.

Government initiatives like Parish Development Model and Emyooga received recognition for helping citizens transition from subsistence agriculture to market-based economic participation. Rugunda urged voters to support Museveni's continued leadership. Presidential campaign activities begin September 29, 2025 and continue through January 12, 2026.
