Rujumba family land taken, Hoima denies stadium name

A family fight has erupted over naming Uganda's newest football stadium. The relatives of Dr James Rujumba want the massive Hoima Stadium named after their late father. They gave away 10 acres of land where the stadium stands and believe this earns them naming rights. The project costs a whopping $129 million and should finish before the end of 2025.

Dr Rujumba made history as East Africa's first animal doctor back when Uganda was still under British rule. He traveled across the country treating sick animals and helping farmers. The man also played a key role when Uganda fought for independence from Britain. He even helped create dictionaries and translated religious books into local languages.

Other people want the stadium named after King Kabalega instead. The Bunyoro royal was a famous fighter against colonial rule. This has created tension between different groups who all think they deserve the honor. The stadium will host matches when Uganda joins Kenya and Tanzania to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Turkish builders are putting the stadium together faster than expected. The facility will seat 20,000 people and have training grounds and a swimming pool. Football experts say the design looks amazing and uses Uganda's national colors perfectly. The Rujumba family keeps pushing officials to recognize their father's forgotten contributions to the country.

The naming battle continues as construction moves forward on the outskirts of Hoima town.
