Rukwa Region is pulling international mining investors because of mineral variety and streamlined government systems, according to Engineer Joseph Kumburu from the regional mining office. The area sits right next to Zambia and DRC, with Lake Tanganyika Port handling cross-border trade, and officials handed out more than 480 licenses while processing another 600 applications through digital channels.
The region moved 337.6 tons of minerals worth over 264 million shillings last financial year, bringing in 18 million through royalties and fees. The mining office grabbed 656.2 million in total revenue, hitting 87.5 percent of their yearly target.
Gold, copper, coal, gemstones, helium, and rare earth elements sit under Rukwa's soil, and the government carved out 13,000 hectares for small-scale operations to get more locals into the sector.
