Russia backs Venezuela’s new leader after Maduro’s ouster

Russia just doubled down on Venezuela's new president after some wild U.S. drama. They're offering full backing to interim leader Delcy Rodriguez, who got sworn in recently following the capture and extradition of former president Maduro by American forces. Moscow called her ascent a move to protect Venezuela's independence.

The Russian Foreign Ministry released a big statement of support. They praised the power shift as lawful and necessary for stability. The language framed it as a defense against outside aggression and neo-colonial threats.

Russia pledged unwavering solidarity with the Venezuelan government. They promised continued support and stressed Venezuela's right to choose its own path. The statement also called for calm and respect for international law, labeling Latin America a peace zone.

Interestingly, Rodriguez seems to be playing both sides. Despite the clear tension, she publicly invited the U.S. government to work on a cooperative agenda. She talked about shared development and community coexistence under international law.

This puts Russia in its familiar role as a counterweight to American influence. They're positioning themselves as the primary defender of Caracas against Washington. The whole situation feels like a messy geopolitical chess match, with Venezuela's new leader trying a cautious outreach.

The real test is whether that olive branch is genuine or just tactical. Given the recent events and Moscow's forceful endorsement, skepticism is definitely the default mood. The region's balance is getting another serious shake-up this year.
