President Ruto's friends have started checking out Mt Kenya ahead of his trip there next week. Several leaders traveled to Murang'a county last Friday, with National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa leading the group.
Ichung'wa arrived in the evening after spending the day in the Igembe North area of Meru County. He joined local MP Julius Taitumu to deliver a school bus to Kiongo Secondary School. The Kikuyu MP later flew to Kamahuha, where Woman Rep Betty Maina led an initiative helping local women start small businesses.
This visit came just a day after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki inspected work at Gikoe market in Mathioya constituency, also part of Murang'a county. During his stop, Kindiki rallied locals to back President Ruto. The Deputy President also visited areas in Tharaka Nithi county and Limuru in Kiambu. Earlier on Wednesday, he toured the Mbeere North region in Embu County.
Eliud Owalo, who serves as Deputy Chief of Staff for Performance under the President, checked several county projects on March 21 that might appear on the President's schedule. During his visit, Ichung'wah asked locals to avoid divisive politics and instead back government efforts to improve their lives.
He stated that anyone telling citizens to abandon the government was misleading them. The MP reminded everyone that Mt Kenya played a key role in electing Ruto and would give him a warm welcome. He mentioned that the President had already met with MPs from Meru county to plan his upcoming visit.
Ichung'wah encouraged Murang'a residents to appear in large numbers during the presidential visit. He advised them to dismiss rumors claiming the region faced unfair treatment. As proof, he pointed out that when officials from the area left their positions, other people from the same region replaced them.
The MP revealed that President Ruto will launch the Kenol Waste Water Treatment Plant and the Maragua Bridge project, which will cost 312 million shillings. Ichung'wah referred to the President by nicknames Kenyans use and asked if people wanted him to bring food during his visit, which made everyone cheer.
MP Maina also asked residents to welcome the President during his upcoming trip. She stressed the importance of cooperating with the current administration. As a strong supporter of President Ruto, she explained it makes little sense to help elect a government and then distance yourself afterward.
Maina promised continued support for the administration because this position would allow her to help women across the region better. Nominated MP Sabina Chege urged Murang'a residents to demand results from all elected officials rather than believe propaganda.
She advised citizens first to ensure their local representatives, county officials, senators, and governors work for them instead of fighting against the government. Chege explained she came to tell people they can only benefit from a government they participate in, not one they oppose.
She joked that residents should relax their attitudes, especially those who previously became upset whenever they heard Ruto's name. Chege assured everyone she remains part of the government and will keep requesting development projects for the entire region.
