Ruto Cheers on Starlets for Big Win Over Uganda

President Ruto praised the Under 17 Starlets after they beat Uganda 3-0 at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. The Sunday match pushed Kenya into the third round of FIFA U-17 World Cup qualifiers. Ruto posted on X that their win proves Kenya's young talents can compete at international levels. He praised their passion, discipline, and teamwork for inspiring the nation.

Ruto told the players this victory marks just their beginning. He encouraged them to keep aiming for excellence and show the world what Kenya offers. Earlier on March 8, the Junior Starlets had already won their first match 2-0 against Uganda in Kampala. Edinah Nasipwondi and Joan Ogola scored those goals at Nakivubo Stadium during the second-round opening clash.

Someone named Ndege expressed pride about the girls, their coaches, and the staff who arranged travel between Kenya and Uganda. He promised the federation would continue backing the team through all available means. These young players already experienced World Cup action in the Dominican Republic in December 2024.

Kenya advanced directly to the second qualifying round, skipping earlier matches. Their opponents, Uganda's teenage cranes, had crushed Namibia with a massive 18-1 combined score to reach this stage. The tournament these teams hope to reach happens in Rabat, Morocco, later this year. The ninth FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup runs from October 17 through November 8.
