Ruto hails Nairobi United in historic CAF rise

Kenya's president praised Nairobi United after the club became the first team from the country to advance to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage. The squad defeated Tunisian club Étoile Sportive du Sahel 7-6 in a penalty shootout on Sunday following a 2-2 aggregate score. Goalkeeper Brian Bwire stopped one penalty kick to secure the victory for the Mozzart Bet Cup champions in their continental debut.

President William Ruto said on Monday that the achievement demonstrated resilience and teamwork. The club will receive 51 million shillings for reaching the group stage. Officials expect to hold the draw for the next round later this week with 16 teams competing.

Ruto called the win a significant moment for football in the nation. He encouraged the team to represent Kenya with distinction as they prepare for group stage matches against other African clubs.
