Ruto Locks Down Luhya Support for Second Term

Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula has rejected claims about Luhya community support for Rigathi Gachagua.

The statement came through his X platform post. Savula declared the Luhya community stands with President William Ruto through 2032. "The Mulembe nation will not support his candidate (Gachagua)," Savula wrote, adding "Kumi bila break" to show his backing for Ruto's second term.

Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala sparked this response. In a Monday speech, Malala claimed the Luhya community would join forces with Gachagua to challenge President Ruto in 2027.

Malala spoke of a new political movement taking shape. "We must deliver the country. A new party is emerging. It will not be a party solely for the Mountain, as some claim. I want to assure you that we are committed to working with you," he told Gachagua.

He pledged the Western region's support to the Mount Kenya people. "I have heard them say they will sideline the Mountain. The Western region stands with Gachagua," Malala stated.

The former UDA official pointed to recent events. He noted that Gachagua's December 29 visit to Kakamega lasted four hours compared to President Ruto's planned six-day visit. Malala suggested this showed Ruto's concern.

Malala maintains strong ties with Gachagua. Both lost their positions in the ruling party's leadership.
