Ruto rewards Harambee Stars after historic CHAN win against DR Congo in Nairobi

President William Ruto fulfilled his financial commitment to Kenya's national football team after their victory against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Sports Ministry distributed the promised funds to players and technical staff members following Sunday's match. State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed confirmed the payments and announced similar rewards await the team after Thursday's encounter with Angola. Austin Odhiambo's first-half goal secured Kenya's historic first win in a CHAN tournament. The victory at Moi International Sports Centre energized supporters and strengthened hopes for Group A advancement.

The reward system has earned praise from football fans and sports officials as meaningful support for local players facing financial challenges. Kenya faces Angola next in the tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. A second victory would position Harambee Stars favorably for the knockout stage qualification. Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan similarly honored her pledge to reward Taifa Stars after their 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso. The Tanzanian team received cash payments totaling 20 million Tanzanian shillings for their two goals scored during the opening match at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
