President William Ruto removed Mary Wambui Mungai from her position as Communications Authority of Kenya chairperson through an August 8 gazette notice. Charles Kamau Karondo received the appointment to replace her for a three-year term. The president exercised powers under the Kenya Information and Communications Act to make these changes. Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Murithi Mugaa simultaneously appointed Mungai to chair the Athi Water Works Development Agency board. This move reversed Karondo's previous water agency role.
Ruto had originally appointed Mungai in December 2022 after Gilbert Kibe resigned to pursue personal interests. Kibe previously served as the Director General of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority before his appointment to the Communications Authority. Mungai brings over thirty years of executive experience across multiple industries. She previously served on the Kenyatta National Hospital board for seven years. The president also reappointed Shallow Abdullahi Yahya for another three-year term as National Drought Management Authority chairperson.
