S L Bhyrappa, Kannada lit giant, bows out at 94 in Bengaluru

Renowned Kannada author S.L. Bhyrappa died Wednesday at Rashtrotthana Hospital in Bengaluru after suffering cardiac arrest. The 94-year-old writer had been receiving treatment for age-related medical conditions at the RR Nagar facility. Hospital officials confirmed his death, noting that the Padma Bhushan recipient passed away peacefully.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss of the distinguished literary figure, describing him as a fearless thinker who enriched Kannada literature. The Prime Minister emphasized Bhyrappa's contribution to Indian culture and history through his thought-provoking works. Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy expressed shock at the news, particularly praising the author's interpretations of Hindu epics through novels like Parva and Uttarakanda.

BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra highlighted Bhyrappa's role in bringing global recognition to Kannada literature. Political leaders across Karnataka acknowledged his research-based approach to social themes and cultural preservation. The literary community mourns the death of one of Kannada literature's most creative voices.
