Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Denies RM1.78 Million Mining Scandal Claim

Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Jeffrey Kitingan rejected claims he took money from mining companies. The politician said he never received 1.78 million ringgit from any business seeking government permits. Someone accused him and other state leaders of taking bribes from firms wanting mining approvals. Jeffrey called the accusations false and said enemies want to hurt Sabah's government. He leads the STAR party and serves as agriculture minister.

The unnamed person made these claims on June 27 through leaked information. Jeffrey said this attack plan has happened in Sabah politics since the 1960s. His STAR party denied any connection to mining businesses or permit applications. The group supports nature protection agreements that oppose mining activities. Party members gave statements to anti-corruption investigators.

Jeffrey criticized news reports that spread unproven accusations against him. He said defending Sabah brings these political attacks from opponents. The politician warned that more false claims might appear before state elections. Jeffrey considers suing the website that published the mining allegations. He called their reporting harmful and careless.

The whistleblower named several other political figures in the supposed scandal. These people work for different parties across Sabah's government structure. The accuser claimed to have photos, videos and text messages as proof. Anti-corruption officials received a 300-page report with all the evidence. Jeffrey said earlier statements from the same person cleared his party of any wrongdoing.
