SADC World Bank Plot Mega Trade Superhighway

SADC officials met with World Bank leaders yesterday to plan new economic pathways across Southern Africa. They designed a SMART Integrated Economic Corridors program that merges infrastructure growth with industrial development. The North-South Corridor will serve as their test model before they expand to other regional routes. SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi talked with World Bank Acting Vice President Amit Dar during their Washington meeting.

During their talks, they also discussed energy projects. The Regional Energy Transmission, Trade, and Decarbonization Project will replace older energy initiatives. This project received approval earlier this year with $1.26 billion in funding. The money aims to increase electricity trading between countries and help build more renewable energy systems throughout Southern Africa.
