Tanzania plans to transform its fisheries and livestock industries through strategic investments aimed at boosting international trade and employment opportunities, according to President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The leader outlined plans to nearly double designated grazing land to 6 million acres while strengthening vaccination programs and breed improvements to meet global market standards for animal products.
Infrastructure development will include water dams, slaughterhouses, and processing facilities designed to create complete value chains for livestock goods. Hassan emphasized shifting focus from traditional metrics toward commercial attributes such as meat quality, milk volume, and hide durability to modernize the sector.
The administration will complete construction of Kilwa Fishing Port, expected to generate approximately 30,000 positions, while establishing another facility in Bagamoyo connected to fish processing operations. Authorities plan to reform licensing systems, expand aquaculture through cage and pond investments, and address feed technology challenges that have hindered fish farming development across the East African nation.
