Samsung is developing two versions of AI-enabled smart glasses, with releases planned for 2026 and 2027. The initial model, scheduled for 2026, will lack a dedicated augmented reality display and will operate primarily through voice commands. The subsequent 2027 model is intended to include an AR display, supporting functions like photography, video recording, and music playback.
This move places Samsung in direct competition with Apple, which is also targeting a 2026 launch for its own AI smart glasses. The Apple model is expected to feature integrated cameras and microphones for hands-free notifications and AI translations, but will similarly not have a built-in AR display. These developments position both companies against Meta, which recently launched its Ray-Ban Display smart glasses featuring a high-resolution display and a control interface that uses hand gestures. The 2027 Samsung model would be the first from the company to directly challenge Meta's AR-enabled offering.
