Sangai Film Festival 2025 celebrates Manipuri cinema's past and future

Manipur will host its seventh Sangai Film Festival at the Palace auditorium, offering free admission for five consecutive days beginning Monday. The event showcases Indian Panorama selections alongside digitally restored celluloid classics from regional archives, presented through a partnership between the state film development society and national preservation institutions.

Secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum announced that 10 short productions by emerging directors will screen under a dedicated segment for new talent. Four internationally recognized documentary features will expand the program beyond regional offerings, accompanied by a discussion on financing and audience development led by industry veterans and moderated by filmmaker Bobo Khuraijam.

The cinema celebration coincides with a larger 10-day tourism festival organized by state authorities to promote travel and economic activity in the region.
