A judge at Bundung court locked up Modou Lamin Sanyang on Friday after he was found guilty of robbery. The court heard how Sanyang threw sand into the eyes of Jacinta Ilo on February 10, 2025, in Tallinding. He grabbed her stuff when she couldn't see - a Tecno Spark 5 phone worth D6000, a Nokia phone worth D1000, cash of D800, plus ear pods and keys.
Police Inspector Bobo Jarju told the court that Ilo teaches school and was headed to work when Sanyang attacked her. The inspector said Sanyang later sold everything he stole at Serekunda market. The guilty man begged the court for mercy and promised he would never rob anyone again, calling his actions a mistake.
Inspector Jarju asked the court to make Sanyang pay back the victim as required by Section 145 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Principal Magistrate Dawda Phatty finished the hearing by scheduling the sentencing date for April 10 at 1 pm. The victim lost all her belongings during the morning attack as she tried to make her way to teach her students.
Sanyang will stay behind bars until his next court appearance next month. The judge listened to both sides before making his decision about Sanyang's guilt. This theft happened through a surprise attack that left the teacher temporarily blinded and unable to protect her property from the thief, who took advantage of her helpless situation.
