Sarah Wairimu has been charged with providing false information to a police officer and swearing a false affidavit regarding the alleged loss of her passport. According to court documents presented at Kibera Law Courts, Wairimu is accused of reporting her passport as lost to Chief Inspector Mercy Riungu at Munyange police station in Nyeri county on February 20, 2023. The prosecution contends that this false report resulted in the issuance of a police abstract. On the same day, Wairimu is also alleged to have sworn a false affidavit before an advocate in Nyeri, again claiming her passport was lost while knowing this to be untrue.
Wairimu pleaded not guilty to both charges during her appearance before Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul. She remains in custody at Lang’ata Women’s Prison, where she is also on trial for the murder of her husband, businessman Tob Cohen. Previous bail requests have been rejected, with the court expressing concerns about possible witness intimidation and the risk of interfering with the case. The court has stated that Wairimu would need to demonstrate remorse before any future bail application could be considered.
