Scary Rukiga Bus Crash Wounds 11 Passengers

Eleven people suffered serious injuries when a Gateway Bus Company vehicle crashed on Sunday morning. The SCANIA bus with registration number UBM 707X was traveling from Kampala to Kabale District with passengers on board. Police spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the accident happened at 6:10 AM at Rwabahazi Cell on the Ntungamo-Kabale Highway. The driver lost control of the bus after hitting a woman walking on the roadside. The vehicle rolled into a water ditch and flipped over.

The injured passengers range from 11 years old to 77 years old and come from different backgrounds. Driver Balabye Karim was among those hurt during the crash. Other victims were Rwakinda Dafroza Tumushabe, Kyomuhangi Assumpta, and several children from the same family. One injured person holds Rwandan citizenship. Medical workers first took all victims to the Rotom Health Centre for treatment.

Doctors moved some patients to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for advanced care. Police officers visited the crash site and made drawings of what happened. Traffic officials recorded statements from people who saw the accident occur. Officers towed the damaged bus to Rukiga Central Police Station, where vehicle inspectors will examine it later.
