Scorned Ex GF Sets Windhoek Shack Ablaze Killing Couple

A woman denied killing her former boyfriend and his new partner in a fire. Mecthilde Karomo, 32, pleaded not guilty to murder and arson charges when her trial began. Her lawyer told the court she would not explain her plea, making prosecutors prove every claim against her.

Police say Karomo set fire to a house after becoming jealous of a new relationship. The state claims she threatened Leonard Kadubuli, 36, and Annastasia Matende, 31, on December 25, 2022. Witness Elizabeth Haingura testified she saw Karomo fighting with Kadubuli that night. Haingura said Karomo threatened to burn down the house if the couple slept there.

Early next morning, the shack burned completely with both victims inside. Officers arrested Karomo that same day. She stayed in jail until last May when she received bail for N$3,000. The court case continues with Deputy Prosecutor Dominic Lisulo representing the government.
