Selangor authorities broke up an international romance fraud operation during a November 5 raid in Kajang, detaining 13 foreign nationals who operated a call center targeting Japanese victims through social media deception. Police Chief Shazeli Kahar reported that the group had maintained activities for approximately three months, establishing fraudulent profiles on Instagram and Line before cultivating victim trust and extracting sensitive personal details through private messaging.
Officers confiscated 11 devices, including phones and laptops, while extending custody for all detainees through November 11. The operation revealed that members coordinated financial transactions using encrypted applications such as Telegram and Signal to conceal their activities.
