A Senate committee has issued formal summons for the governors of Kericho and Isiolo counties after they failed to appear for a scheduled hearing. The County Public Accounts Committee condemned the absence of Governors Eric Mutai and Abdi Guyo as contemptuous and a violation of their public duties. Committee chairperson Moses Kajwang stated that the last-minute postponement requests from the officials were unacceptable.
Kajwang emphasized that the committee must complete its review of the 2023-24 financial audit reports by a constitutional deadline. He warned that the Senate would continue its work without interruption, even during the holiday period. The committee also cautioned county assemblies against providing unconvincing excuses for non-attendance.
Several senators criticized the governors' explanations for their absence, with one describing the reasons as dishonest. The committee resolved that any future postponement requests must be submitted at least seven days in advance. Failure to comply with the new summons could lead to further legal action to compel their attendance.
