Sheema MP Fights Back Over Arts Teacher Pay Snub

Rosemary Nyakikongoro secured nomination to represent the ruling party during upcoming parliamentary elections. The Sheema District Woman Member wants another term fighting for fair teacher pay. Arts teachers earn less money than science teachers despite doing similar work. Government promised to raise arts teacher salaries from 620,000 to 4 million shillings. President Museveni believes science teachers deserve higher pay than arts educators.

Arts teachers went on strike Monday demanding equal treatment with science colleagues. Government officials made promises about pay increases during 2019 but failed to deliver. Nyakikongoro says five years cannot accomplish meaningful change for rural communities. She wants to finish water projects that would help village women stop carrying heavy containers. Many areas still lack electricity forcing families to use expensive paraffin lamps.

Rural women need better access to clean water and healthcare services. Nyakikongoro believes economic opportunities will strengthen families across her district. She wants more health workers stationed at local medical centers. The politician hopes women can start businesses and earn independent income. Empowered women create stronger families and more stable communities throughout Uganda.
