Shock Hits Albertine After Two Fatal Shootings

Two fatal shootings by security personnel shocked the Albertine region, highlighting concerns about excessive force. A Hoima police officer shot and killed a motorcycle rider after a traffic collision. The officer, Reuben Kwihangana, allegedly shot the victim, Mawala Mawejje, in the head following an argument about reckless riding.

In a separate incident, a UPDF soldier named Corporal Aggrey Byamugisha was arrested for shooting a civilian at a bar in Masindi. The soldier reportedly entered the establishment armed with an AK-47 and fired randomly, killing a local hawker named Mugisha. Police recovered 14 bullet cartridges and one live round from the scene.

Regional authorities have arrested both perpetrators. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, confirmed the investigations are ongoing. The incidents have prompted public calls for increased accountability among armed security personnel.
