Shock Move - Gachagua Booted from UDA

Kenya's Ruling Party Moves to Replace Former Deputy Leader.

Kenya's United Democratic Alliance wants to remove former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from his role as deputy party leader. The party plans to replace him with current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.

Party leaders Cecily Mbarire and Hassan Omar announced the change in a newspaper notice. The switch needs approval from Kenya's political parties office to take effect.

The party made this choice after Gachagua lost his job as deputy president last October. He was removed for not following President William Ruto's orders, among other reasons.

Gachagua fights the decision in court. More than 30 cases about his removal will come before three judges this week. Some party officials said they might kick him out completely if he loses in court.

Sources say Gachagua plans to start his political party next month. His supporters confirmed he wants to stay active in national politics and keep his influence in the Mount Kenya area.

Former lawmaker Catherine Waruguru said the new party will use blue as its main color. Another supporter, James Gakuya, said the party launch will change Kenya's political scene.

Gachagua told people at a church service he would share his plans soon. "I will tell you what comes next in two weeks during a TV interview," he said.

Kindiki, the new deputy party leader, promised to help unite the country and work with President Ruto to run the party well.

The ruling party recently joined forces with another group called the Amani National Congress. They added new leaders to their team, including Issa Timamy as second deputy leader. The party changed its logo and look after joining together.

These changes come as the party gets ready for Kenya's next big election in 2027.
