Sifuna on Not Joining Ruto for City Tours

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna made it clear why he skipped President Ruto's Nairobi visits. Speaking at a funeral in Machakos on Saturday, he explained that nothing in the agreement between ODM and UDA requires him to follow the President around.

"After we signed those papers, I knew people would start making up fake rules," Sifuna told mourners at Colonel James Gitahi's burial. "I saw headlines claiming I avoided Ruto's meetings. The agreement never says the ODM Secretary General must tag along with the President everywhere."

Sifuna pointed out that when Raila attended a Kiambu funeral recently, UDA's Secretary General wasn't there either - because that's not part of the deal. He emphasized that President Ruto himself understands this, recalling how Ruto told Nairobi leaders everyone has their specific job.

"Voters won't judge me based on how many presidential meetings I attend. My work happens in the Senate. The President does his job, I do mine and come 2027, citizens will decide," Sifuna stated. The funeral was for Colonel Gitahi, husband of ODM Senator Betty Montet, who died March 7 in a fiery crash at Kyumvi Junction when his car hit a truck head-on.
