Sifuna storms out of Sakaja Finance grilling

Kenyan legislative proceedings descended into chaos after Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Kisii counterpart Richard Onyonka stormed from a devolution committee session while grilling Governor Johnson Sakaja over allegations that his administration selected financial institutions through questionable processes rather than merit-based evaluation. The senators demanded documentation proving county banking contracts delivered optimal value and adequate safeguards for taxpayer resources before nominated lawmaker Margaret Jepkoech Kamar accused them of derailing proceedings, insisting the panel pursue a factual inquiry without gatekeeping obstruction.

Sifuna and Onyonka abandoned the chamber after declaring their determination to maintain strict focus on capital city fiscal accountability, temporarily suspending committee operations. Sakaja defended administrative decisions as legally compliant efficiency measures designed to streamline payroll operations while pledging to furnish validation records upon request.
