Silksong's release date sends Aeternum and Panik Arcade fleeing

Two independent game developers postponed their upcoming releases after Team Cherry revealed September 4, 2025 as the launch date for Hollow Knight Silksong. Panik Arcade moved CloverPit from September 3 to September 26, seeking better market visibility for their slot machine roguelike title. The studio acknowledged the risk of competing against such a highly anticipated release.

Aeternum Game Studios faces a more significant challenge with Aeterna Lucis, their 2D Metroidvania sequel. The developers pushed their launch window to 2026, citing both the overwhelming popularity of Silksong and technical limitations. Their statement emphasized concerns about competing within the same genre against a cultural phenomenon.

Development kit shortages for next-generation platforms compound the studio's difficulties. Industry observers suspect Nintendo Switch 2 access remains limited to larger publishers. Aeternum credited Team Cherry with revitalizing the Metroidvania genre and inspiring their own creative work.
