Simeone revels as Atletico ends away curse

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone praised his squad after securing their first away win of the season against Real Betis. The Argentine tactician emphasized the team's strong first-half display but acknowledged goalkeeper Jan Oblak made a vital save to preserve the clean sheet. Simeone noted defender Jose Gimenez remains essential when fit and suggested previous road performances against Espanyol and Mallorca were equally solid despite lacking goals.

The 54-year-old coach confirmed that midfielder Pablo Barrios felt adductor discomfort, and medical staff will assess his condition within 48 hours. Simeone defended his substitution strategy, explaining that Alex Baena replaced Giuliano Simeone to maintain counterattack threats, while Antoine Griezmann entered to provide passing vision. The manager stressed the significance of the victory as Atletico prepares for its next fixture on Saturday.
