Small-scale miners drive Zimbabwe gold output to 11.6 tonnes

Zimbabwe struck gold during the second quarter as miners pulled massive amounts of the precious metal from underground. Small-scale diggers led the charge and helped push total production to 11.6 tonnes between April and June. The numbers jumped sharply from the first quarter when miners only managed 8.5 tonnes. Fidelity Gold Refinery tracked all the deliveries and released the impressive figures. The country has already mined over 20 tonnes for the entire year.

Artisanal miners carried the heavy load and delivered 8.79 tonnes during the three-month period. These hardworking individuals increased their output significantly from just 5.77 tonnes during the previous quarter. Large mining companies also stepped up their game and produced 2.81 tonnes compared to 2.72 tonnes earlier. The bigger operations showed steady growth even though they contributed less overall. Both groups worked together to boost the national totals.

Government officials set an ambitious goal of 40 tonnes for the complete year. The strong performance during the first half puts Zimbabwe on track to reach this target. Mining experts believe the unified approach between different types of operations drives success. Gold deliveries already exceeded expectations during the first quarter. The precious metal industry continues growing as more miners join the profitable business.
