Smith destroys South Africa as England crushes hopes

Linsey Smith captured three wickets for seven runs as England Women dismissed South Africa Women for 69 runs in 20.4 overs on Friday at Baraspara Stadium. The total marked the second-lowest score for the Proteas in ODI World Cup history. Smith removed both openers within her first two overs before claiming Marizanne Kapp as her third victim.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt took two wickets for five runs, while Sophie Ecclestone finished with two for 19, and Charlie Dean claimed two for 14. Sinalo Jafta led South Africa with 22 runs off 36 deliveries before Ecclestone bowled her in the 18th over. Lauren Bell dismissed Sune Luus for two runs to compound the early damage.

England opted to field first, and the strategy paid immediate dividends as South Africa collapsed to 38 for six by the 11th over. The comprehensive bowling performance left England with a modest chase, and an opportunity to improve their net run rate in the tournament.
