SMTKL geeks out with Malaysia’s first AI lab

Malaysia witnessed a historic milestone as Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur opened the nation's first secondary school artificial intelligence laboratory. The facility launched during centenary festivities marking the institution's 100-year anniversary. Prime Minister's wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail attended the ceremony, emphasizing the lab's role as a blueprint for technical education advancement. The laboratory will guide innovation-based learning methods across Malaysia's technical and vocational training programs.

The school partnered with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to implement a college of technology approach focused on practical learning experiences. This collaboration marks the first application of such methodology at Malaysia's technical secondary education level. Students from neighboring schools will access the facility through a feeder system designed to develop technical skills early. The century-old institution recently earned gold recognition for digital education excellence at awards ceremonies held during July.
