Sommet beats City Oilers 90-87 in overtime at Lugogo

Defending champions City Oilers suffered a shocking overtime loss Sunday night at Lugogo Indoor Arena. Sommet defeated the ten-time champions 90-87 after five extra minutes of play. The defeat marked the seventh loss for City Oilers during their troubled 2025 campaign. First-year team Sommet earned their ninth victory of the season against established competition. Four other games took place Sunday across the National Basketball League.

Sommet jumped ahead early and controlled the opening quarter 29-18. City Oilers fought back throughout the contest and showed championship experience. Fataki Nyembo sank two free throws late in regulation to tie the score 78-78. The crowd erupted as the game headed to overtime at Lugogo. Sommet stayed calm during the extra period and outscored their opponents 12-9.

Nyembo dominated the court with 37 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for City Oilers. Kasereka Tembo contributed 17 points for the winners. Peter Cheng added 15 points and John Focus Teko scored 10 for Sommet. Edgar Munaaba and Joseph Chuma each scored 20 points for the Oilers. Fayed Baale and Moses Maker added 16 and 15 points respectively for the losing side.

City Oilers bench players managed just nine total points during the loss. The champions record stands at 7-7 after 14 games played. Their title defense faces serious challenges without improved team depth. Sommet continues their impressive debut season performance. The league championship race remains wide open.
