Somvubu wins Cerevita Smart Schools Showdown final

Somvubu High School from Matabeleland North captured first place at the Nestlé Cerevita Smart Schools Showdown national final after competing against regional qualifiers in a full-day academic tournament. Beauty Ptinkula acknowledged that nutrition questions posed the greatest difficulty for her team but credited their overall performance across science, literature, and current affairs categories for securing victory.

Marist Brothers Nyanga High School finished as runners-up despite recovering from an initial deficit through strong performances in later rounds, though competitor Pride Mwanaka expressed concern that ambiguous question wording resulted in valid responses being rejected. Goromonzi High School earned third place, with participant Laurence Chokoto thanking organizers for educational resources awarded to participating institutions.

Nestlé Zimbabwe positioned the competition as an investment in student development and national capacity building, while National Head for Debate Khumbulani Sibanda emphasized that collaborative problem-solving skills cultivated through the contest extend beyond trophy recognition. The tournament utilized a zonal progression format designed to ensure equitable access for schools across all provinces.
