South African tourist still missing in Nyika National Park as search enters day seven

Search teams continue hunting for missing South African visitor Gerhardus Albertus Janse Van Rensburg across Nyika National Park's challenging landscape. The 72-year-old tourist disappeared July 17th after leaving his vehicle to locate directions when GPS navigation failed him and wife Noelien. Van Rensburg walked away wearing only shorts and a shirt without shoes while his spouse remained with their car. Park officials immediately began rescue operations when family members reported the incident. Lodge staff kept fires burning through the night hoping to guide the lost traveler back to safety.

Multiple agencies coordinate the week-long search effort using helicopters from Mozambique and advanced drone technology. Ground crews face harsh terrain featuring dense vegetation, steep ravines, and rocky mountainsides at elevations reaching 2,500 meters. Nighttime temperatures plunge to nine degrees Celsius, creating dangerous survival conditions. The Ministry of Tourism partners with Peace Parks Foundation, Wilderness Safaris, police forces, and community volunteers. Noelien receives support from relatives at Chelinda Lodge while authorities pledge continued search activities.
