South Africans storm streets for Mkhwanazi as anger over SAPS meddling explodes

Demonstrators across South Africa have mobilized to defend KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi against what they describe as political interference within law enforcement. The movement gained momentum after supporters gathered in Johannesburg earlier this week before shifting to Durban for additional rallies. Crowds voiced their backing for Mkhwanazi through chants demanding that authorities leave the commissioner alone. His allegations regarding political meddling and criminal infiltration of police structures have sparked widespread public concern. The protests have attracted diverse participants ranging from political party members to ordinary citizens.

MK Party veterans and civil society groups have joined the demonstrations alongside community activists who view Mkhwanazi as someone revealing systemic problems within the police service. Organizers report increasing frustration with senior SAPS leadership and government officials who have remained silent on these issues. The movement plans to culminate with a major demonstration in Pretoria this Friday. Protesters demand the dismissal of compromised officials and restoration of previously dissolved investigative units. They also seek enhanced protection for whistleblowers who risk their positions and personal safety when exposing misconduct within law enforcement agencies.
