South London trains evacuated in scorching heat

Trains broke down near Loughborough Junction during scorching weather that pushed temperatures past 30C. Railway workers rushed to help passengers escape from three stranded trains that lost power and air conditioning. People had to walk along train tracks to safety after waiting up to two hours without cooling systems. Some travelers missed their flights to Gatwick Airport because of the delays. The train company apologized for the uncomfortable situation.

Weather experts warned that London could see temperatures reach 33C during the weekend heatwave. Health officials issued amber alerts across England to protect people from dangerous heat levels. Researchers from London universities predicted the extreme weather might cause 129 extra deaths across the capital. The same study suggested England and Wales could see around 570 heat-related deaths from Thursday through Sunday.

Emergency services prepared for more 999 calls as the hot weather continued. London Ambulance Service already handled 7000 calls when temperatures hit 28C earlier. Medical staff warned that older people and young children face the biggest risks from heat illness. Doctors said they were seeing more cases of heat exhaustion that can quickly become serious.

London Fire Brigade reported 15 deaths already happened this year from people jumping into waterways to cool off. Water rescue calls increased by 15 percent compared to normal summer levels. Officials urged people to think carefully before swimming in rivers or ponds during the heat.
