South Sudan swears in new vice president and ministers

South Sudan's President Salva Kiir Mayardit oversaw the installation of a new vice president and multiple cabinet officials, including veteran politician James Wani Igga, who will lead economic policy initiatives centered on petroleum revenue oversight, agricultural revitalization, and infrastructure expansion. Igga succeeds Benjamin Bol Mel, who was dismissed from his positions within the government, ruling party, and security apparatus.

Among those taking oaths of office were Mabior Garang de Mabior, appointed to head the Environment and Forestry portfolio, and Ateny Wek Ateny, who assumed control of the Information, Communication Technology, and Postal Services ministry. Additional appointments included Monica Achol Abel Aguek as presidential envoy to Middle Eastern nations, Michael Makuei Lueth as Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister, and Peter Lam Both as head of the Roads and Bridges ministry.
