Spud Revolution Powers Uganda's Climate Fight

Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze spoke about how potatoes and sweet potatoes help feed families across Africa. He called these crops important tools for fighting hunger and helping farmers make better money. The minister addressed people at a major farming conference happening at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Over 300 experts from many African nations came to share ideas about growing better crops. Scientists from America, Britain, and other countries also joined the five-day meeting.

Dr. Yona Baguma leads Uganda's main research organization and runs the African Potato Association. He talked about new potato types that Uganda scientists created to fight vitamin problems. These special varieties grow better during droughts and other climate troubles. Sweetpotatoes became Uganda's third most valuable crop because of this research work. Baguma said African countries need steady money to keep developing better farming methods.

The conference featured displays of new farming tools and methods for growing potatoes. Companies showed machines and techniques that help farmers lose fewer crops after harvest. Experts demonstrated ways to turn raw potatoes into chips and other processed foods. The meeting aimed to help African farmers compete better against producers from other continents.
