Spyro says his father’s words made him fear failure

Nigerian singer Oludipe David, known as Spyro, has opened up about his past struggles with fear of failure and the lasting impact of his father’s harsh words. In an interview with Frank Edoho, Spyro recalled that his father frequently used negative language when correcting him, which led him to internalize fear and view himself as a failure. He said this affected his performance in secondary school and left him doubting his ability to complete university.

Spyro admitted that he once believed he would die poor due to his deep fear of failure, known as atychiphobia. He said he overcame those fears by building a personal relationship with God. Before his breakthrough, he was on the verge of quitting music and had already begun working in interior design. His hit song, Who Is Your Guy, went viral in 2022 and earned widespread attention.

The remix with Tiwa Savage in 2023 further boosted his career. That same year, the track won Best Collaboration at the 16th Headies Awards.
