Sreenivasan exits stage left, Malayalam reels

The industry lost a legend. Veteran Malayalam filmmaker and actor Sreenivasan has died. He passed away while receiving care at Trippunithura Taluk Hospital for age-related issues. His career spanned forty-eight years and included roles in around two hundred twenty-five films, where he was known for both comedic and lead parts that felt authentically human. He was equally famous for his sharp writing, which used humor and social commentary to shape the storytelling of an entire regional cinema.

Actor Prithviraj posted a farewell online, calling him one of the greatest writer-director-actors and thanking him for the laughs and ideas. Another actor, Dileep, expressed deep personal grief, saying Sreenivasan's absence would create a huge void in his life and in Malayalam films, mentioning he would miss his loving advice and their spirited arguments. Singer K.S. Chithra also shared condolences, noting she was saddened by the news and grateful to have sung for many of his movies. The broader film community is reportedly feeling a profound sense of loss.
