Standard Bank customers got locked out of their mobile and online banking platforms after software company Sage ran into technical problems with the bank feeds coming through. People trying to log into the app got error screens at first, and when access came back, they could only see outdated balances with no transaction history, airtime purchases, or prepaid electricity available.
Sage confirmed the mess started with its Yodlee connection, specifically for Standard Bank, while other financial institutions worked fine. The outage also stopped new account signups from going through, and customers experienced major delays in their transactions. Sage pushed its Business Cloud Accounting product into maintenance mode after users in South Africa found most features greyed out and unusable.
