Steam Machine tests question 4K 60 FPS capability

A homemade system approximating the specifications of the upcoming Steam Machine suggests Valve's console may struggle to meet its advertised 4K resolution target at 60 frames per second. YouTuber The Phawx assembled a testing platform using an AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor with disabled cores and a Radeon RX 7600M XT graphics card to evaluate performance claims.

Testing confirmed the hardware delivers six times the performance of the original Steam Deck, with some benchmarks exceeding that figure. However, most titles failed to maintain 4K output at 60 frames per second, even when utilizing upscaling technology in Ultra Performance mode with reduced graphical settings. God of War Ragnarok represented the sole exception, achieving the target using Intel XeSS. Games including Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2 and Starfield required significant compromises.

The analysis indicates the 8 GB video memory allocation could limit performance, though competitive pricing may still position the device favorably within the market.
